Are you in {Flow}?

Flow or also known as being "In the Zone": the mental state in which a person performing some activity is fully immersed in a feeling of energized focus, full involvement, and enjoyment in the process of the activity.

Have you ever been doing an activity and lost complete track of time? You feel weightless and a new level of concentration. You've been doing something for an hour, or maybe it has been 3? You can't really remember...

If you have experienced this feeling, you were definitely in flow.

Here are a few other ways to identify the state of flow:

  1. You feel energized by the activity or task you are doing.

  2. You feel challenged (in a good way, because you know it is achievable)

  3. You have a sense of purpose when doing these tasks or activities

Here are some examples of when I am in the state of flow:

  1. Working on my podcast

  2. Hiking

  3. Reading

I remember when I did my first hike in Vancouver and I thought I was going to die. The first 15 minutes seemed like a death sentence. Then I started concentrating on my breathing, visualizing making it to the top, and feeling the state of flow. I quickly became obsessed with this feeling and how to achieve it. I did as many hikes as I could afterward.

Do you feel fully immersed in the activities you participate in? Do you feel energized and that you have a purpose?
